There are so many projects to make for Christmas with cross stitch including gift tags, placing settings, tree decorations, card the list goes on. Giving someone a handmade item tells the recipient that it has been made with love.
The Christmas season is probably the most creative time of year and it is possible to decorate the home for a reasonable amount of money.
What can be decorated?
1 Gift tags – these can be stitched on small left over pieces from a larger project or use perforated paper and attach to a piece of card pierce a hole in the top thread ribbon through.
2 Xmas stockings for the children or just for decoration – buy a ready made plain stocking using aida band stitch festive designs and attach to the stocking.
3 Make your own cards – simple charts can be found to decorate the front of a normal card or it can be put into an aperture card. Another is to stitch a design onto perforated paper and attach to a card. If using the latter it should be a design that contains whole stitches as it is not possible to pierce the paper to make quarter stitches.
4 Place cards for the table – if you are entertaining formally stitch the name or just the initial of individuals with a small festive motif they can take home with them as a memory.
5 Napkins – using waste canvas decorate with a small design in the corner of a normal linen napkin
6 Decorate candles – with aida band make a collar for the candle but remember to take it off before burning the candle.
7 Tree decorations – stitch onto aida fabric or evenweave a festive design of which there are so many to choose from. Cut to the shape of a bauble and back with felt. For a more stable decoration cut a piece of card between the cross stitch and the felt backing. These can be brought out each year and new ones added.
8 Christmas bunting – with plastic canvas make a merry Christmas banner. Stitch each letter on individual triangles once complete connect them using string or ribbon. Display in your entrance hall or across a window.
9 Wall hanging – make a festive wall hanging which can be brought out each year.
10 Drinks coasters – another item that can be used year after year.
11 Table centre – a festive table centre matching the drinks coaster is another idea.
12 Tree skirt – although this is a larger project it is another heirloom.
Just a few items that can be made to decorate the home to make the holiday season even more special whether it is for your own home or to give as a gift.
